Sitting back and reflecting on my last few days in Cambodia has actually left me a little emotional. It was my last few hours in Siem Reap strolling the streets along the river that actually made the biggest impression. Sounds crazy considering this place is known as the home to the awe inspiring 7th wonder of the world – Ankgor Wat…. but it was actually the two children in the below picture that stole my heart.
As a tourist in Cambodia you are inundated by locals from older mine victims, mothers with babies, young men touting tuk tuks to children selling anything and everything. You are told (as a traveller) to support the local businesses, donate directly to charities, but whatever you do, try not to give money directly. This is easier said than done… especially when many, have become very good at making you feel guilty for not.
But the below two children were being just that, children. Swimming in the lake, being curious and came running opened armed (literally) and wanted to hug, play and pose for pictures with me. The rare thing was, they didn’t follow with ‘$1 lady!’ Making me want to give even more…Wearing: Dorothy Perkins Shirt, Lovisa Necklace, Witchery Shorts, Sam Edelman Flats, DVF Bag.
