Growing up, Sunday brunch has always been a big family affair. My European background (I’m a first generation Australian) meant Sundays always started with early morning Mass followed by a big brunch with the extended family.
Us kids (cousins) didn’t think much of it at the time, but now we reminisce about running amuck whilst munching on the best sandwich’s ever – nothing was better than the warm and crunchy freshly baked breads, cured meats, yummy array of cheeses, pickled olives and gherkins and freshly sliced homegrown tomatoes… YUM!!
This ritual has forever cemented Sundays as brunch day, enjoyed with those you care about most. This Sunday past, I realised just how lucky I am to have a great Singaporean family to continue to share this brunch ritual with. Although its safe to say, we’ve been making our own rituals such as starting with brunch and finishing by finally getting home at 10pm – Yikes! One too many White Russians!
